The City of Kingston Parks and Recreation Department is proud to
offer year-round environmental education and nature based programming
in all of our city parks and nearby natural areas.
Beginning in the Summer of 2005, environmental education staff,
Steve and Julie Noble developed and implemented a range of educational
programming, the goal of which was to introduce the local community
to the natural world that is found within the city’s parks.
Kingston is situated between two amazing natural resources, the
Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains. The educational programming
creates a link for the community to explore and appreciate these
resources while also recognizing the importance of the local
ecology of our parks.
The Environmental Education Staff is pleased to offer high quality,
low cost programs to both adults and children at the Forsyth
Nature Center and many other city parks. To date, over
200 public and group programs have been offered that have provided
fun, educational experiences to the community. We hope that you
find our programs exciting, educational and innovative. We are
always looking for programming ideas and are open and welcome
to all suggestions.
The Forsyth Nature Center is excited to begin laying the groundwork
for the construction of an environmental education facility that
will provide a venue for indoor and outdoor education. This facility
will be a location for the display of ecological and natural
exhibits, will include a multi-function classroom/meeting space
to allow for more formal educational activities and will serve
as a resource and model for the community through the implementation
of “Green” technologies and renewable resources.
