School/Group Programming

The Kingston Parks and Recreation Department is proud to offer school/group based environmental education programming year round. These programs are nature-based ecology courses offered both in schools and in Kingston Parks at little or no cost.

Programs include:

4) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, RETHINK

5) What's a Watershed?

6) Winter Bird Watch

7) Snowshoe Jaunt

8) Maple Sugaring

9) Gardening in the Classroom

10) Kayaking 101

 

Registration for these programs is available online.

 New this year:

  • ALL program registration will be ONLINE only.
  • Programs will  be offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays only
  • Each teacher will be able to participate in ONE or TWO environmental education programs for the 2011-2012 school year. We serve a large population, so please do not overbook, in order to accommodate everyone. You can place yourself on wait lists (see below # 8).

HOW TO REGISTER:

1. Log on to www.forsythnaturecenter.org

2. Complete the login form on the left (create an account)

3. Click on School Programs (red tab on left side)

            Scroll through programs until you find a program and date you'd like to register for

                        OR

     Click on Program Calendar (tab on top)

            Scroll through calendar until you find a SCHOOL: date/program you'd like to register for

                        OR

    Search by Program name

                        OR

    Click on Events by Location to choose a program based on location

4. Each Program has fast facts, the event date, cut off date for registration, the capacity (1, which means 1 class only), and whether any teacher has reserved it yet (in which case "registered" would say 1, available would say 0), and a program description.

5. Click on Details for the complete program information

6. When you have chosen a program, then click "Register". Complete all of the fields. Then click Registration Confirmation.

7. Review all of the info to make sure it is accurate and read and accept the Terms and Conditions.

8. Click Process registration. At that point, the program you registered for will be filled. If you or anyone else clicks on that same date to try to register for it, you/they will be placed on a wait list for that date's program. In the event of a cancellation of that date's program, we will contact you to alert you that you are then registered for the program.

9. You will immediately receive an email to the account you listed, from STEVE NOBLE, with the Subject: Event Registration Confirmation, with all of your details. Attached to that email, please find a printable PDF version of the Program Registration Information, for your reference.

One week prior to your program, you will receive a confirmation email from STEVE NOBLE, confirming your upcoming program.

If you need to cancel your program(s), you should do that online as well. If you did not create a user account, you cannot cancel a program online, you'd have to contact us directly.

NOTE: IF you would like a self-guided tour of the Forsyth Nature Center or a shorter General Forsyth Nature Center Tour (1-1.5 hours), providing your own transportation, please contact Julie Noble directly for availability. Please do not register for the full FNC Zoology Program if you are not interested in the longer program.

Fees are wavied for 2011 for Ulster County Schools. For other schools/groups, there is a fee listed.

There is a $1 per student transportation fee for using City van transport  (capacity for 26 students). 

NOTE: School programs are all designated by SCHOOL: before the title. Please register your classes for these programs only. If you are interested in reserving spaces personally for other Environmental Education Programs, this is the forum for this also, just choose other programs that don't say SCHOOL (the public programs).
